I think I fell in love with tiny houses even before I read the first article about the movement. It was during my first trip to IKEA years ago, when I witnessed the 250-ish square foot apartment display in their showroom and was like, “Wow. I could do this. I could live here.”
The last few years I’ve devoured articles, countless photos, and even episodes of HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters. More recently I’ve gone so far as to contact RV parks about parking tiny houses year round, search “for sale” sites, and go to my first tiny open house.
But up until recently I had never actually stayed in a tiny house. I decided that had to change.
Below are video tours of each of the three tiny houses in which I stayed. Warning: If you are susceptible to motion sickness, I’m afraid it’s pretty much guaranteed as I swing the camera around looking at different areas and shake it while climbing up and down stairs. The good news is that each video is relatively short.

I’ve been obsessed by tiny houses for years, and the three you stayed at are super cute–especially the first one. I’m currently staying in a vacation cottage on the beach. At around 600 square feet, it’s a little bigger than a tiny house. I could go smaller if it was better organized with more storage.

I *totally* agree with a need to be organized / have storage in order to go small. I loved the storage under the stairs in that first tiny house – what a great use of the space!

Standard house builders can learn a great deal from both the Tiny House builders and RV manufacturers. There is a lot of wasted space in most homes often caused by badly placed doors, windows, heating radiators and stairs. We could all make better use of the space we have and in many cases, therefore, avoid having to move to larger properties.
